Backup and sync
Optional backup so your history survives a lost phone and follows you to a new one.
What to expect
Turn on backup and your sessions, settings and streaks are copied to your account, so a lost, broken or replaced phone doesn't take your training history with it. Sign in on a new device and everything is there. Use more than one device and they stay in step.
Two phones, one set of points
If you run Health Connect on more than one device, the same workout can arrive twice: once as the session your phone recorded, and once as a copy that came back through Health Connect. Your weekly total will not count it twice.
This is the rule ZonePoints already applies to every session it holds, whatever the source. Where two sessions cover the same stretch of time, that time is credited once, and the session recorded on the device takes precedence over anything imported. A session from another app still counts for whatever time the local recording does not cover, so nothing is thrown away and nothing is doubled.
Backup does not change that logic. It gives it more to work with.
It stays optional
ZonePoints works with no account today and will keep working that way. Backup is something you switch on if you want it, not a sign-up wall in front of the app, and not on by default. Leave it off and nothing about the app changes: your data stays on your phone, exactly as it does now.
Why we're building it
Local-only storage is the right default, and it's the reason the app asks nothing of you at install. It's also the reason the most common support message we get is from someone who changed phones and lost two years of sessions. Both of those things are true at once, and the answer is to make durability a choice rather than a condition.
